Lacking an effective, FDA-cleared diagnostic tool, physicians are often reluctant to make a specific diagnosis because of the complicated and time-consuming requirements for differentiating between Alzheimer's, normal aging and other neurological disorders. The current standard of care typically requires multiple visits to the clinic over a 2-3 year period before a diagnosis can be made. Once diagnosis is made, the vast majority of physicians prescribe one of several common treatments that have been proven effective in treating the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Much of the delay in diagnosis, and consequently treatment, is due to the significant time required for monitoring symptoms and the subjectivity of current tests (Fig 1.1). There is a clear and obvious need for a more accurate and objective test that can provide results in a single visit.

Orasi plans to offer a groundbreaking alternative: a single, patient-friendly diagnostic test (the Orasi Synchronous Neural Interactions™ (SNI) test) with real-time results, allowing physicians to make an accurate early-stage diagnosis. Earlier diagnosis results in improved patient quality of life by reducing time to diagnosis and effective treatment by as much as three to four years. Orasi's technology is based on five years of research and development at the University of Minnesota and VA Medical Center. Subject to FDA clearance, we expect to begin marketing this product to the clinical market in late 2011.
